Should an Entrepreneur Use a DIY Web Design Tool?

We often come across entrepreneurs that have built their own website using something like Website Builder with GoDaddy. Wix, Weebly, or some other DIY web design tool and wonder why their website isn't bringing in any new business. The fact of the matter is that those drag and drop systems are only designed to give you a very basic web presence.

The problem is that entrepreneurs have the mindset that a simple website is all they need. The problem is that if you actually want to get found organically online, there are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes of a regular website that you just don't get to do when you use one of those drag and drop website building systems.

The major thing that keeps you from easily getting found when you use something like website builder is that you don't get to add alternative text, or alt tags, on the images you use.

Alt tags are used by software for the visually impaired. Since software can't read an image, they have to rely on the alternative text that you use. The search engines also use alt tags to "read" your images making this a great place to use keyword phrases if it's appropriate.

If you're going to take the time to add a picture to your content, then you may as well take the time to add some alternative text too. And that's just one of the limitations.

You also can't add Google analytics to your site if you use website builder and while GoDaddy may tell you how much traffic you are getting, they limit just how much information they give you. You may also end up with a website that is slow, looks like hundreds of others and is difficult if not impossible to take your website with you when you decide to upgrade.

For some, those DIY website builders just might be perfect. If you need something quick and simple, using something like Wix or Weebly will be just what you need. However, if you are trying to launch a business or an online store, you may find it worthwhile to invest in a professional web designer rather than risk losing money on your business.

In Raleigh, web design can be done by Print and Web Designer, where we love to help your business grow.
